Basement Paint

Best Paint to Use

Last year, we had to paint the basement floor because it was really dirty from cat mess and spills. We needed to paint it because we were going to sell our home.

Make sure you don't make the same mistake we did! We hired someone to paint our basement. However, they used the wrong kind of paint.

Four Thing We Learned

The floor began peeling several days after water dripped on it. Also, where it didn't peel, it left a big stain, which is a problem when listing your house.

The painters told us that they used paint left over from another job - they didn't mention what the paint was used for. (Trust us - it really matters!)

The paint they use was PPG Multi-Pro 47-110. According to the company website, MULTI-PRO-Interior Latex is a durable, quality interior vinyl acrylic paint designed for new and repaint applications where speed of application is most important in both the commercial and multi-family markets. ?Multi-Pro Interior Wall & Ceiling paint has good hide and easy application properties on walls, ceilings and trim surfaces.

PPG Paints sells a Floor & Porch paint that would have been perfect for our needs. Had I known then what they were using was wrong, I would have said something.

Best Basement Paint: Epoxy Paint

Epoxy paint is a two-part coating that consists of a resin and a hardener. When the two parts are mixed together, they create a chemical reaction that results in a hard, durable surface. Epoxy paint is resistant to water, stains, and chemicals, making it the perfect choice for a basement floor.

Before applying epoxy paint, it's important to prepare the surface of the basement floor properly. This includes cleaning the floor thoroughly, repairing any cracks or defects, and allowing the floor to completely dry before painting.

In addition to its durability and resistance to moisture, epoxy paint is also available in a variety of colors and finishes. This allows you to choose a paint that complements your basement's decor and style.

Overall, if you want to paint your basement floor, using epoxy paint is the best choice. Its durability, resistance to moisture, and versatility make it a top choice among homeowners.
